Shortly after the South Carolina Secession Convention voted to secede from the Union in December of 1860, the "Sovereignty Flag" was raised and served as the unofficial State flag until the current official flag was adopted on January 26, 1861. Consisting of a red background with a blue Saint George's cross and 15 white stars representing the slaveholding States, along with a crescent and palmetto tree, this design was the basis for the familiar Confederate battle flag adopted by General G.P.T. Beauregard after the First Battle of Manassas in July 1861. This 3'x5' flag is made of 100-D printed polyester. Includes brass grommets and extra stitching on the fly-end for added durability.
